Black hole sun
May. 17th, 2012 03:23 amFolks in North America (and southern China/Japan) - did you know that there is a solar eclipse this Sunday? It's not a total one, but an annular one which is almost as good (and arguably better). For those of you in west-to-mid-United States, check out this handy-dandy map for an easy reference of when and where and what you'll see. Point Reyes here I come!
Oh, and be sure to take appropriate precautions. Never look directly (or with insufficient protection) at a solar eclipse or it will KICK YOURASS EYES because they will be more dilated due to the darkness.

Pow! Right in the kisser!

Wow, where'd this mofo come from in the Bay Area in September?? Peeked out the window just in time to catch a spectacular fork, that's when I knew I had to grab my new shiny PANASONIC LUMIX DMZ-FZ35. It took five minutes of video to bring you these screencaps of the one strike I waited long enough for:

It's no Extreme Instability but it's as good as it gets without moving to the midwest. By the way we're amazingly actually wrapping up at work so I shall be alive again in about a week. Now back to sleep!
(Yay, I get to use the weather tag! :D)
I can speak to snakes, too
Jul. 29th, 2008 10:58 pmHoly crap, Half Blood Prince trailer. Li'l Tom Riddle's acting sounds lame-ass but damn if the trailer isn't impressively edited.
(Slightly higher-quality version here at MSN, but it took like 10 times longer to load for me.)
I slept dead through the earthquake. Go me.

The joys of living in California
Sep. 18th, 2005 12:16 amI find it amusing that there could be a 3.1 earthquake at 12:04am, and there would be enough nerds up and at 'em to make 114 reports online by 12:14am.
Of course, I'm one of them.
Edit: 616 responses by 12:24am.

Sounded bigger. Set off car alarm and dog somewhere.

Jan. 12th, 2004 10:23 pmI think I'm coming down with allergies again. I've never been significantly allergic to anything in my life, but upon coming down to LA last year I had itchy eyes that made me sneeze a lot during the winter months. Winter months, but more like spring weather. Whatever. XP
Ganked from Elwen: The ultimate Nerd Test. I got 54.76190476190476% - dangerously nerdy ;) You'll have to work hard for the score, though.

The air is all smoky and irritating from the fires, though I've heard much worse reports from people at UC Riverside and UCSD. No falling ashes here yet, at least.
This has been a yucky weekend. The shopping trip was fun, but aside from that I haven't gotten anything done that I needed to. Except laundry, maybe.
Job searches, study abroad... why can't I just spend my college life just... doing... y'know, college?

And now it's sunny and hot again.
Aug. 26th, 2003 04:08 pmWow, there was a most impressive freak lightning storm last night. For a long time I just eyed the flashes outside my window wondering what they could be. I mean, I thought there weren't even clouds in the sky? This IS August in California? Then I caught a crisp branching bolt right over the house across the street. Yikes, better unplug the computer.
The rain only came down for about five minutes here, then it moved far off enough that I couldn't hear the thunder anymore. But for a long time I was able to watch an awesome display in the distant clouds. News says there might be another storm this afternoon--I'm not counting on it but it'd be awfully fun if there were. =)
