Look Out It's E3, round 2

Nintendo wins the Pretty War.

Nintendo wins the WORLD.

Well, I exaggerate, especially since they haven't given out nearly as much Revolution details nor specs as the other two consoles had. But Revolution users WILL be able to download classic Nintendo games from the NES, SNES, and N64, plus backwards compatibility with GCN. It's like every Nintendo console evar (except Virtual Boy lol) in one slim sexy machine! And it's not even the final design which might be even smaller!

At this rate, the Revolution will surpass white dwarf densities and collapse into a black hole to devour us all. Now that's innovation!

Notes from the press conference:

Electroplankton rave!

Oh my, Mr. Miyamoto. You have a naughty puppy :-*

Game Boy Micro = kinda cute, but not something I'd get. But then, I've already got my heart set on the DS.

Mario & Luigi 2, new DS (simul 2-player!) Super Mario Bros. = knew they were coming, but doesn't stop me from HELL YEAH! The flagpole returns!!

Wi-fi Smash Brothers at Revolution launch!!

Uhh, Mario busting phat moves in DDR is just uh... silly. XD But then, what Mario spinoff game isn't? I have to say though that Mario is the only way you'll get me to play a baseball or tennis or soccer game. And have a great time at it!

Wow, Fire Emblem('s cutscenes?) looks fantastic.

So does One Piece, even though I hate the anime!

Check out the GCN Kirby trailer. Kirby's got mad Link moves! =D Also, it's the return of creating helpers ala Kirby Superstar! Multiplayer action!? And, yes!! Broom Power is back! =D

Confirmed - Link is the wolf. Looks sort of like a Light World/Dark World transformation ala Link to the Past. IGN says:

A search of the title Twilight Princess on the Internet, however, reveals some interesting information. Apparently this is also the name of a Japanese manga which was inspired by the movie Ladyhawke. That film tells the story of a knight and his lady ruined by a horrible curse. The knight is forever cursed to transform into a wolf with the moonlight, just as the lady is cursed to change into a hawk at the first sign of sunlight. There is a possibility, albeit far from proven, that the new Zelda may mirror this storyline. Footage from the latest trailer seems to back this theory, as Link can be seen carrying a hawk on his arm as he explores certain areas. If Twilight Princess does follow the Ladyhawke storyline, that hawk would of course be Zelda.

That makes me teh happy, because the thought of Ladyhawke had actually been brought up in my mind a couple of times in the last couple of days. Watched it in English class in high school, it was a sweet little fantasy movie. I'm skeptical about that hawk being Zelda though, because it looks like it takes place in the starting village. But if she were, squee-age!

New trailer (32.6 mb Quicktime), and even more new concept art.

Edit: That trailer from zelda.com has bad synch between audio and video. I'll keep you posted on a better file. If you're really hard up check IGN.

Edit edit: Fixed with sweet, sweet trailer from nintendo.com.

Looking at the Revolution, I have a question:

Where do the controllers go? Or are they wireless (which would rule, especially if they had some sort of docking/charging station)?

The Revolution controllers are confirmed wireless. All of the next-gen consoles are. But I can't tell you where the Gamecube controllers/peripherals are supposed to go. Bongos, anyone?

Maybe we'll see a wireless-to-gcn-controller adapter thing.

Hmmm, I didn't see any memory card slots either. Have they gone for internal storage on the rev? (asking you as you seemed well-informed on the whole thing)

Haha, I just mirror what I scoop up by obsessively hounding the game forums. But basically, all I know for sure about the Revolution hardware is:

- It takes normal CD-size disks as well as Gamecube disks. Also features DVD playback.
- HD output, and output for computer monitors (YES!)
- Can be stored horizontally or vertically.
- Controllers are wireless. Possibly also contains some type of gimmick I mean innovation.

And I suppose there's some other news about the internal things, like what kinds of chips they're using and stuff, but those don't mean anything to me until I can see the hardware put to use.

As for where stuff can plug in, well, there's always the mystery behind the compartments on the front and top...

Nintendo themselves have sort-of confirmed the Light World/Dark World thing on their site: http://www.nintendo.com/gamemini?gameid=fce85fe2-688f-4276-a3c2-84e0f270ab8b&

Ah, I see the Nintendo website has finally recovered from its deluge of hits. Welp, a Light World/Dark World split is not surprising, since it's been a frequent theme in previous Zeldas.

Midna, eh? I'd briefly considered that she was the Twilight Princess, but thought about it and concluded that it would be like too anti-climactic. Or at least misdirecting. And if you go by Ladyhawke, then Zelda doing the transformation thing at "twilight" would totally fit. Works with that visual (http://www.liuart.com/journal/zeldapreview38.jpg) in the trailer, too, I seem to recall Michelle Pfeiffer in a similar robe in the film.

...Unless Zelda IS Midna ala Sheik/Tetra. Arrarrarrarr no, she can't be, she seems to be in human form in the "Twilight Realm".

Heh, I wonder if they're going BACK TO THEIR ROOTS OH YEAH by ripping off taking inspiration from yet another old-school fantasy film ala Legend ;)

All I must say at this point in time, as I'm sitting melting in Thailand about to teach my first ever lesson is.....
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
My mind is so not on English right now! Damn!

Ladyhawke- I saw that film, I knew there was a good reason for me to watch it! Squee!
Ah thank god for Nintendo, I knew they wouldn't disappoint.
