Look Out It's E3, round 1

Sony: A whole lotta impressive numbers, but nothing for getting actually excited about. Media center blah blah blah. Talk about the games! Zzzzzz

Edit: Okay, I admit - that Killzone 2 clip has dropped my jaw. The other game trailers look also fantastic, but I can't judge them 'cause there's no telling if they're representative of any actual gameplay footage.

The PS3's convexity looks, um, wobbly. If you store it on its side, that is. It needs to spoon with the X-Box 360 XP I don't know, convex just doesn't seem quite as sexy as concave. Go on a diet lol

Oh, there's a flat bottom, nevermind. But you still can't put anything on TOP of it. (Aside from the 360 lol) And the power switch's still on the back, just what makes that a good idea?

PS3 supports 7 Bluetooth controllers, which is quite an odd number. ::rimshot:: (Wah it's a boomerang! Doesn't look like it'll fit my hands... but I'm saying nothing until I've actually had my hands on it. If I bother saying anything at all.) Also, the wireless controllers charge by induction (sitting on top of the console), which sounds really cool in theory but in practice you might have to wait for 2 hours before you can play a game with your drained controller, unlike X-Box ones which can charge via USB plug.

FFXII looks fancy. And uh... can't really make any other conclusions...

New Advent Children trailer, which looks ... probably good but flashing by way too fast! I see Tifa kicking serious ass though.

Oo, X-Box 360 is backwards compatible, even if only with "top selling X-Box games" (har). I gladly eat my words, but it's still cheating ;)

Also: Looks sleek.

Also also, I got myself signed up for a market research interview for "preferably PSP gamers" on Thursday that'll net me a free PSP game. Of course I have no intention of purchasing a PSP to play said game, but hey, eBay! Or an early birthday present for some poor soul with a PSP ;) Anyone?

Whatever you may say, I think the PS3 looks really sleek and pretty. It's a lot like the small computer cases I was looking at. As long as there are memory card and PS2 controller slots hiding behind that panel on the left. Otherwise, all bets are off.

The induction thing is weird. How are you going to get the controllers to sit on the curved top? I have enough problems keeping my controllers up there now. c.c

Well, obviously I'm biased. And I don't think it looks bad... just a bit... boring. I'm actually more attracted to the 360's looks. But of course, that's not gonna make an iota of difference when it comes to wanting to play actual games on the consoles.

As long as there are memory card and PS2 controller slots hiding behind that panel on the left.

Ehh, hard to say... especially about the memory cards. There's a chance the controllers might plug into some USB slots with adaptors, but so far we don't see any place to plug controllers otherwise.

How are you going to get the controllers to sit on the curved top?

People have asked that and I've no idea. Especially since the thing is not all THAT big (though it's bigger than the X-Box! (http://gear.ign.com/articles/614/614837p1.html) o_O) and there's no way you'd fit 7 controllers. XP

It looks like the designers somehow got the wrong idea of where the controller is supposed to, er, fit.

But now when I throw it at the wall it'll come back!

Hah, never heard those ones before!

I kid, I kid. It's only because I've been obsessively hounding game forums that I've heard all the reactions already. Doesn't make them any less true!

[identity profile] simhuman.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
The thing is, those were my initial reactions seeing the thing, and I didn't get a chance to read a forum until later because my connection's been on the fritz. Not too surprised that everyone else thought the same thing.

I thought 'em too, at least subconsciously on the first one. It must be an ingrained reaction, buried deep down in the back of our minds kindled by ancestral Cro-Magnon memories.
