Time to rape my bandwidth some more.

NEW. TRAILER. (Quicktime 30.0mb. Gah.)

Uhm... well, I'm very impressed by the large variety of monsters, and it looks freakin' dark (those ghostly zombie/Redeads = WTF!? This IS still Zelda and not Resident Evil 5?). The environments look gorgeous too. (What's with the wolf thing? A little overly cliché aren't we? ) I'm still kind of iffy on Link's animation... I dunno, feels kind of weird. Maybe it's just I don't feel like I know him.

Buuut, looks like will be hellova fun game to play, at the very least. Even if it doesn't ... feel completely like Zelda ... ?

Edit: Did he just pick up a cat? o.O Kitty?? o.O And did that cat just make a sound like the ones in Chrono Trigger that sound more like a chime than a mew? O.o

Edit edit: Hey Link, it might not be a very good idea to go swimming in that clear clear water when you're wearing chainmail and a big honkin' shield...

The mounted fighting looks pretty cool. And some awesome-looking beasties. Definitely one of those things that I'd love to watch other people play, cause it's so pretty and realisticky and stuff.

My favorite thing from this trailer would have to be the variety and innovation in monster design. Very very cool and unexpectedly dark. And it looks like it will be the biggest blast to play ever - I can't wait to explore all those environments. Man. *_* *_* *_*

I've been eh on the mounted fighting since the first trailer though - probably because I suxxored so much at controlling Epona in Ocarina of Time. =D Well, not gonna hold that against it.

I love it, I take a couple of day's downtime without the computer and I come back to find a new Zelda trailer. *scampers off to watch it*
Ditto on the cat front. That scares me, Link doesn't strike me as a cat person, but I suppose I'm just miffed because it means that I'll have to rethink Ganoncat...

Link seems solidly a horse person to me. But that doesn't mean he can't go carrying around kitties for some sidequest thing or other. And isn't it strange that he's no longer carrying objects over his head? Granted, I guess I can't really see this hyper-realistic Link doing that, but it's a long-time Zelda tradition broken... =D

[identity profile] loobywibble.livejournal.com 2005-03-13 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
All the best people are horse people ^__^
Doesn't the weird wolf remind you of the rumors a few months back about Link changing into different animals? And that's why he's being animal friendly, because they know he's an animagus (a la Cruckshanks and Sirius Black in POA). And there's the dogs that stalked him in the earlier trailer. Perhaps he's become Werewolf!Adolescent!Angst!Link!
And isn't it strange that he's no longer carrying objects over his head?
Now that Link's a teenager, perhaps he can't really do that anymore due to a lack of anti-perspirant...

Yes it did, to my dismay. Now that I've had more time to consider it, it probably wouldn't be as bad as I thought if they pull it off right. On one hand, it could lead to some great puzzles and interactions. On the other hand, it still seems too gimmicky (see: Majora's Mask), and I'd much prefer playing sword-and-shield-Link than alternate-body-Link-with-cutesy-creature-moves. But... we'll... see...

At any rate, the animals didn't seem to be any more friendly to him than the animals in previous games were. Pets can be picked up and may follow you around, but the fish in the pond are ignoring/avoiding him as usual. And I'm sure the critters he's stabbity-ing aren't feeling too warm and fuzzy about it ;)

Oh yeah, HP-nerd mode: Crookshanks isn't an animagus, he's just part Kneazel. ;P

perhaps he can't really do that anymore due to a lack of anti-perspirant...

Aiyee!

I know; what I was trying to get at was Crookshanks being the only other character apart from Lupin who knew that Snuffles and Sirius were the same person/being/dog. Animal empathy and all that jazz.

Ooh, had a thought about the Re-dead/ghosty zombie things in the trailer (this struck me as I was brushing my teeth before bed.) I think that the view's in first person and Link has just popped the Lens of Truth on- notice the squiggle across the middle of the screen as we see them. Perhaps ghosts of soldiers, prompting a sub-quest/ task to get into a spooky dungeon... am I reading too much into this?

[identity profile] nendil.livejournal.com 2005-03-14 11:31 am (UTC)(link)
Consensus does seem to be that it's most likely the Lens of Truth (or similar item) in first-person view, and that the ghosts were once Hylian soldiers (you can make out the crest of the royal family on their armor). Also, consensus seems to be that the odd yellow squiggle is probably a trail (scent trail?) you'll have to follow (as an animal!?). I'm not a-gonna try to theorize about it more 'n that, though. 'Specially since word is that we've got big surprises and revelations coming up at E3...

(YES I DO SPEND TOO MUCH TIME ON VIDEO GAME MESSAGE BOARDS!)

[identity profile] loobywibble.livejournal.com 2005-03-14 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
I can't believe I'm missing E3 coverage this year- I've just booked my flight!- I think I'll have to set up a mailing list so I can be kept up to date, seeing as I have no idea what the internet access will be like in Thailand.
and that the ghosts were once Hylian soldiers
I thought they were Hylian too, and they reminded me way too much of the ghosts in the mountain in Lord of the Rings. What do the message boards make of the word being that the game is set after Wind Waker? Seeing that living statue, I slightly more convinced that it is, but still...

[identity profile] nendil.livejournal.com 2005-03-14 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
Well, rest assured that I'll be right up-to-date with any and all media within an hour of their release, right here. ;)

What do the message boards make of the word being that the game is set after Wind Waker?

See, that part really confuses me. I'll buy that it takes place after Wind Waker, fine, but then why does this Link swim/sound/look/have a horse just like OoT Link? And why does this Hyrule seem to share so many similaries with OoT Hyrule? Only thing I can come up with is that the Hero of Time pulled some massive time-travel trick, which is iffy but I'd be willing to accept.

(*I* wanted it to be a sequel to Majora's Mask, hrmph.)

If it's a brand-new Link, I'll be okay with that too (though slightly disappointed). But I don't want it to be Wind Waker Link. I can't see WW Link growing up to do the chainmail/earrings thing at all, and plus, I definitely want any direct WW sequel to continue with the cel-shaded-ness.

[identity profile] loobywibble.livejournal.com 2005-03-14 12:03 pm (UTC)(link)
WW Link seems a little bit... dorky, doesn't he?
See, when I saw the first trailer I was convinced it was OoT Link too. I'm hoping it'll be an OoT sequel (which would *technically* be a Majora's Mask sequel too!) because OoT remains to me the best gaming experience I've ever had. Unless Nintendo goes all Capcom-verse on us, which I doubt, I'll be happy with whatever Link they give us. If only they'd show us some other characters, perhaps we'd get more of a clue *is still dying to see how Zelda will look in the new style*

[identity profile] nendil.livejournal.com 2005-03-14 12:14 pm (UTC)(link)
WW Link seems a little bit... dorky, doesn't he?

Yes he does but all the more endearing for it ;)

Anyways. OoT is my favorite game by far too. I want a sequel to Majora's Mask in plotline only. Hated playing that game, I did. ^^;;

If only they'd show us some other characters

Well, there's a Goron... but uh. That's probably like, the race revealing the LEAST amount of information that they could've shown us. Sneaky bastards. XP

*is still dying to see how Zelda will look in the new style*

Join the line, sista! The moment I see her will be the moment I bust out a whole new can of whoop-ass.

Oh wait, that's not right. Whole new can of fanart.

One word: reincarnation.

Yeah well, WW Link was reincarnated too and look how he turned out...

[identity profile] nendil.livejournal.com 2005-03-14 12:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Forgot to say: I'll be fine with it being a brand-new Link, but they better have a good explanation for the resemblance. I mean, they haven't even bothered changing voice actors...
