Fweeeedom!
Miraculously, I somehow managed to get done all the stuff I needed to get done... sort of..., despite massive procrastinatorial activities. So now that schoolwork's done with, went on a HUGE GBA rom downloading spree. Just want to put down a few thoughts upon initial try-outs:
* Metroid Fusion - Gorgeous graphics, particularly the cut scenes. They're not just impressive for "video game standards", but they're truly very artistic on a concept art level. The plot is also very intriguing. I expected the storyline on a Gameboy game to be just something I can blow off, but it's quite the opposite.
* LotR: TTT and RotK - Not really that exciting gameplay-wise, but strangely addictive. I've never actually played Diablo but I'm totally seeing how folks say these games are exactly like it. And it's just too amusing to go to town on a horde of Uruk-Hai as little Frodo <g> Oh and also, get to see cut (extended) scenes from RotK!
* Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green - The graphics are somewhat improved, but the sound isn't. Not enough motivation right now to spend time on these "old skool" games. =P
* Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - Beautifully smooth gameplay. If the GBA version is this nice, I can't even begin to imagine the full version on Gamecube etc...
* Wario Ware Inc. - You have to play this game to grasp the full (insanely addictive, or maybe just insane) experience. That's about all there is to say. I love the Nintendo-themed microgames <g>
Edit: Okay, Fire Red/Leaf Green do have a number of improvements, and there are remixes to the music. It bugs me, though, that they have to hold your hand through the whole thing with extra little tutorials about the most obvious stuff, like how to use the Gameboy buttons and how to battle Pokemon. Hello, we figured it out just fine on our own the first time...
