It's such a completely different character design and outfit to any of the other Zelda's.
It's because she's not a princess yet :P
Wild Mass Guessing: it's Vaati!
Nope. (http://nendil.livejournal.com/169940.html)
I was thinking that they'd taken the TP engine and made it more like WW, then I remembered that the TP engine was originally the WW one. So they've kinda merged the two together?
Engines don't really work that way. It's just a matter of how much they've changed up animations and other specific issues. The engine is just sections of code that say "when I get these certain inputs, perform certain tasks (like slash a sword or climb up a ledge or make AI react)".
...Aren't you a CS guy? Do I really need to explain this? :P At any rate, I wouldn't be surprised if the Skyward Sword engine is much changed from TP's due to all the Motionplus and other new features.
the footage of 3rd-party titles shown during the Nintendo presentation was actually from PS3 and Xbox360 consoles.
Meh, it's powerful enough to look at least that good. Code is code; this console finally supports shaders and stuff that everyone else is (has been) doing so there's no reason it can't pull off anything technically.
Rhythm Heaven: it's Japanese craziness! Very tempting.
You should definitely check out the previous games. I think the GBA one was never localized (not that it's very hard to understand), but the DS one was.
Kirby Mass Attack: ...is it just me, or does this look like a Gameboy Colour game?
Well, it's a DS-not-3DS game, and they're using all the same Kirby sprites from like GBA era (Capcom syndrome?), so.
