Don we now our gay apparel
'Tis the season to be sewing, fa la la la la la la la la.
(Yeah yeah, nerd bedroom = nerd posters.)
First time ever sewing something to be worn! orz It worked out pretty well aside from not being very able to lift my arms above my head. (shh) Making the pattern from scratch was pretty touch-and-go but fortunately, the first cut of fabric I bought was too light in color, so I just used it as a test trial and that was immensely helpful to have. :3
It was painful to browse in the fabric store and having to pass up the luxurious Chinese-style embroidered silks and even the shiny costume satins to look for something fitting a peasant's clothes. (At least it was cheap!) Next cosplay I'm picking someone with a fancier wardrobe. XP

Dunno if it helps, but what I do is find a similar article of ready-made clothing that fits me, and then make the pattern from that. I also use sidewalk chalk to mark the edge lines because it kinda defaults to a half-inch or however wide the seam allowance is supposed to be.
But... eeee! I'm so excited! Maybe you can be Yue next time. :D

IIIIIII don't think so. Don't particularly look forward to making an elaborate parka. Plus, I've stalwartly managed to avoid needing wigs for any cosplay so far :P
And I think Badass!Toph would make more sense otherwise I'd want to make one of Katara's dress-up ... dresses to go with upper-class Toph. Though I'd get to go shop for those fancy Chinese brocades at least.
