Of course it takes the Japanese to get something (mostly) right)

YESSSSSSS the Japanese trailer is out. Now you guys can see how hilariously creepy the edit was. XD Although this is a very different cut from the rough teaser one I saw, it's still about the same in atmosphere, and represents the overall tone of the movie INFINITELY times better than the English trailers.

It's interesting that the Japanese translation calls the spirits "dead ghosts". Not quite true, but spoooooky. Then again about half of the subtitles in that trailer were inaccurate. XP

Edit: Notice not a SINGLE "humbug" in that trailer

Yeah, that one definitely looks cooler than the other ones. So have you, like, seen the whole movie? Or just bits and pieces here and there?

I've seen the whole movie in bits and pieces. Next week we get to see the final thing!

Exciting!

Are you allowed to write a "review" for the movie?

I'm guessing no (NDA???), but I don't think I'd be able to judge it well enough anyway. However this guy here (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1067106/board/thread/149502536) pretty much says everything I would have wanted to say. ;)

So I guess AMC employees don't have NDAs?? XD

I think 50% of the creepiness is from the music?

I think 亡霊 is an appropriate word... even though the WWWJDIC definition makes 幽霊 sound closer, I think that's more ethereal. The spirits have more presence. :P

Now I'm wondering how they translated "bah humbug." Is there a Japanese phrase with an equivalent (or close) cultural cachet?

[identity profile] nendil.livejournal.com 2009-11-04 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
If there isn't, they could easily translate it to something like "Ridiculous." It's actually only said 2 times (3 if you count Fred) and both within the first 5 minutes of the movie. :P
