Hast come home and settled down in various ways...

So went camping this weekend with my brother and his Cub/Boy Scout troops. Did a nice pencil study of a funky tree, which I'll scan in a couple days or so. Sleeping out in nature was fun, and we were visited at night by some deer and a racoon (oops), but it's kind of too tiring to bother with. If I ever go again, you can be sure it'll have to be with multiple athletic male friends. =P

I was a bit annoyed to find that the Boy Scouts were Christianity-promoting, though. I mean, I knew about their conservative anti-gay bias before, but I hadn't really been aware that they were particularly religiously affiliated. I guess it just seems to me that religion should be something one deals with in private, or at purposeful organized gatherings - to throw it into any other generic activity, well, I understand their enthusiasm, but it just seems inconsiderate, especially with an organization that deals with younger kids who are easily brainwashed influenced. I guess it'd be like me organizing, say, LotR activities at a campout, particularly one with people who weren't notified about any geekery. It's sort of like, don't these people have lives?

Anyways, no offense intended to any of my friends who may be religious (I'm not sure I have any...?). But I'm just too much of an engineer Doper to buy it. >_>

Went to see Prisoner of Azkaban at the Tech's IMAX theater today. We went late and didn't get good seats, but aside from the distorted screen the experience was still pretty decent. Even though I know the storyline forwards and backwards and it's not like it's that classic a film, I still fall in love with the art direction and cinematography every time. And the entire third act (from approx. the Trio visiting Buckbeak onwards) always gets me enthusiastic. Must get DVD for extras...
