Why I'm not a sculptor

Today I finally started learning Maya. Following the tutorials were well and good and yielded me a hammer, an egg cup, and a sort-of hand, buuut thinking about the amount of learning necessary to create true art, especially as perfectionist as I am... it pains us, it does...

There are plenty of online tutorials, but the variety in the skill levels is too haphazard for me to get a good learning curve on. Maybe I should go seek out one of those official-ish 2-inch thick books... or just go take some classes somewhere. Someday. Aye.

I tried using 3D studio Max once. I made... a... sphere.. >_

Lol, I'm afraid of 3D Studio Max too, even though I know the principles are the same. It just sounds more cold and unforgiving, somehow. ^^;

If you decide you really want to go the big manual method, I'd suggest trying the library before investing oogobs of money (those things are expensive!)

I tried Lightwave, myself, but it kind of got lost in the shuffle.

Indeed I shall. I found a 3D Studio Max book at the library at home, but haven't seen one of Maya, so if I come across one I'll snatch that up. Otherwise, will just be blindly puttering myself around...
