The crazy adventure of Wii

Saturday
3pm: Dropped by Walmart, where there was no line (except maybe like 1 person).  It was also in an area where the population was more... let's just say... PS3-inclined, so we figured no problems.
8:15pm: Showed up at Walmart, and there was a line of 49 people with allocation of 30 Wiis.  Wiidiculous.  Where did all these nerds pop up from?  According to reports, Toys R Us (the other midnight launch) was already camped out beyond question.
9pm: Immediate change of plans involving a rush home to grab pillows/blankets/lawn chairs/entertainment because the local Target gets 120 Wiis, but opens at 8am.
11pm: Various hilarities ensued including endless Uno games, temporary folding chair purchases, and Kevin grabbing a stethoscope (??) instead of his chess set because the boxes were the exact same size.

Sunday
4:30am: Cold, sleepless night.  But I got to watch the first half of Cars on some guy's laptop!
6am: The line eventually filled up completely.  Three, four hundred Wiis in our town, all totally snatched up.
7am: Target was really nice and organized - they handed out cards to check off the games and accessories you want so they could get them for you ahead of time, and gave out free popcorn and coffee.  A balanced breakfast for the unwashed gaming nerd to be sure.
8:30am: Wii acquired.  Immediately had to go to class.  Boo-urns.
11:30am: Too tired, came home early.  Made a Mii, assessed that the Wiimote does indeed work its magic, ate a few bites of lunch and zonked out. Then [livejournal.com profile] lordfabianshire called me for advice on buying a DS. Then zonked out for good.
4pm: Zelda time!

*tsk tsk* You should know better. XP And, why didn't you just preorder?

Though someone on my flist camped out to get her preorder, which I do not comprehend.

why didn't you just preorder?

Because there were, like, 300 units within a 10-mile radius.

...and that's supposed to sound like a lot?

I dunno, maybe I just don't have a good concept of these things, since I've never camped out for anything. But considering how quickly these things start going up online for 2-3 times the list price, it just doesn't seem like huge lines should be a surprise.

I guess my lesson is more from anime cons: if you're first in line, count your blessings and stay put. :P

I would have rather camped out in California than Freeze-Your-Ass-Off-Toronto (It snowed here last night! That's how cold it is!)

But still, I wriggle with joy at your successful Wii acquisition!

Why no mention of mii? :( I was involved in your day...

Fixed. Did you get that DS? What color and what games? :>

I did! I got a ds, black, and bought final fantasy III. I am LOVING it.

Just because you preorder doesn't mean you're going to get a copy. This happened to a lot of people with world of warcraft. First ones to pick up their preorder get it.

So preorder=first come first serve.
Wait in line=first come first serev.

No real difference in the end.
